What Is Driver Genius?
Driver Genius is a program whose sole purpose is to keep your system and it’s hardware up-to-date to avoid computer conflicts. It’s commonly used to fix PC problems due to errors that may appear from out-dated drivers.
Driver Genius will analyze your PC, back up the drivers that are currently installed, and then search their own database for any updates.
Their database is updated in real-time so you can be sure that when a new driver is updated, your PC will know about it.
What this means is that you’ll no longer spend hours searching the internet for drivers that fit the exact model number of your hardware.
For example – there are hundreds of HP printers out there; fax machines, scanners, big and small. In order to update your specific printer correctly, you’d have to find the exact driver that matches the exact model.
This can be a real headache at times due to the fact that finding the correct driver can take hours if you do not know where to look. That’s why Driver Genius 10 is useful for computer users.
Is Driver Genius difficult to setup?
As with most new programs and software you purchase, there’s always some sort of learning curve when it comes to setting it up. I found the install process pretty easy because it’s mostly automatic.
With just a few clicks of your mouse, you can update every single driver on your computer within minutes.

Once installed, you simply open up the launch icon on your desktop and you’ll be taken to the main screen of the program.

There’s also an updater so that you can check for free updates whenever you wish. And a new version comes out every year which you’ll be able to get free as well.
Automatically Back-up, Restore and Update Your Drivers
Quite frankly, this is what impressed me the most with this program. I have tried others out there, but this one really did a great job scanning the computer and automatically updating/fixing the drivers that were on my computer.
If you happen to accidentally install the wrong driver, you can choose the restore option to bring back the old one.
Driver Genius can keep your system from slowing down, repair those nasty errors you get, and make updating your PC much simpler than ever before.
Here’s the exact process I use when I fire up the software:
- I try to do this at least every other week. I open up the program and I start with the Backup Drivers option. This is important because there’s always the possibility that a new driver can have some bugs that can cause errors.
- The next step is to click on the Update Drivers option. This is where the program will scan it’s real-time updated database of drivers for my the exact one that meets the criteria for the hardware I have on my computer.
- Driver Genius will then give me a list of available updates that I can choose to download and install right from the software itself. It will show me a status window with the progress of the download in real-time.
- Once completed, you can click on the My Downloads option and run each update that Driver Genius had just downloaded for you. It’s pretty simple and doesn’t take much time at all. If I find one of the new drivers has problems, I simply restore the old version and wait for a couple weeks before I update it again.
Some helpful tips to remember: When you first open the program, be sure to back up all of your current drivers. Sometimes the developers release bad drivers that can cause slowdowns and errors. It’s best to have a back up in case this happens to fix the problem.
You may have noticed in the image above the Live Update button on the left-hand side. This is the button that you’ll be wanting to press at least once per month as it is what updates that actual Driver Genius software.
If Avanquest releases any updates to the program, you’ll want to have them when you can get them. So be sure to check periodically.
